CLR - colour

An exercise of sorts ~ wanted to use just one brush for the entire colouring process, oil heavy flow brush. Switched back and forth with just the brush and eraser tools (playing with scatter on some areas like the water and sky). I was trying to do an Art Novaeu-ish style for the frame (and the overall look actually)...not sure if I succeeded, but I like it :P

Overall I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out :D ~ will post the original lineart later. Hope you guys like it!

EDIT: defined the hair a bit more. Many thanks to :iconravenholm: for the suggestion!

Gorgeous. Oh my gosh. The coloring is beautiful and there is so much emotion in this piece of art that I feel like I'm in the character's shoes. The scales are super pretty and look almost real as if one could touch them! The tip of the tail as well! I adore the effect of the waves and the hair, as it really adds drama to this wonderful piece. The sky, oh, what do I say about the sky? It's breathtaking, just like being there, and you used a perfect blend of colors. Wonderful job!

it's not bad, but I suggest to put more effort in facial expression and hands.

Wow. I love the frame, and the shading. If there's something to be worked on, you should add more detail to the hair, as the front part where the light is hitting it, looks great, but what comes after is just.. dull. Ever seen those hair dye commercials where they say "thousand different shades in your hair"? :P That is what I mean.
Other than that, good work. I love how you've managed to make paint-like shading and strong lineart work together, something that I still haven't mastered.

Yeah, I know what you mean :)

I have a pretty laid back style when it comes to colouring my work, and don't really tend to concentrate on parts of my pieces unfortunately :(

But thanks for the tip! I'll definitely re-work the hair some time to give it more life :D

great highlights on the scales and the expression in her eyes really feels sorrow. :yum:

This is brilliant! I love the realistic approach to mermaids.

The only complaint I have is that hair in the neck... looks a bit... wierd... :/
